The STROLLERS & STRIDERS had a couple of lovely canal walks this month with the Church Lawton outing described by the group as ‘exquisite’ and with ‘spectacular scenery’, which was a fantastic recommendation 🥰 We set off from the Red Bull pub in Church Lawton along the canal to the historic All Saints Church, originally founded around the end of the 11th century. The Strollers enjoyed chatting about its history & looking at the architecture & the grounds, whilst the Striders then continued into the woods & around the lake. Both groups met up at the pub where we got a warm welcome from the lovely staff at The Red Bull❣️👏👏
Remember we walk on the FIRST & THIRD Wednesday of the month - contact Sandie (Group Leader) on 07496 088544 if you’d like to know more. November walks will be on the 5th & 19th.
The Barlaston Womblers have been doing a great job as always❣️ Mandy is out several times a week & Joe & Heather Poultney keep Meaford Rd & the stretch of the canal from the roundabout to the Plume tidy & litter free. Margaret & Gordon keep Old Road tidy, & David is recuperating from a serious operation with regular walks & wombles accompanied by wife Sally😍 and Soph and Andrew M keep an eye on Wedgwood Drive & Blurton Road. HUGE THANKS to all our Womblers & anyone who picks up litter when they see it - Litter is EVERYONE’S responsibility‼️🚯❌

It was lovely to see the efforts of the local U3A Hand Stitching and Yarncraft group at Orchard Place. They put together a dedicated Remembrance Day Postbox Topper acknowledging all those who in times of war, have kept our country safe.
The Yellow Poppies remember the women who worked in the munitions factories in both WW1 and WW2 handling sulphur and were nicknamed ‘Canary Girls’, because their skin and hair turned yellow from contact with the chemicals. Purple is for all the incredible animals - horses, dog & pigeons - who were an important and integral part of the support for both military and civilian lives. The White poppies are in recognition of all casualties of war including civilians who aimed to promote and ultimately achieve peace, with the Black poppies acknowledging & celebrating the contributions made during both world wars by service personnel and civilians from the Caribbean, Africa and Asia.
We thank Marianne Stephenson for bringing this to our attention and for placing it in Barlaston for us all to appreciate🙏❤️🙏
The Facebook Photo Competition theme for this month was ‘HALLOWEEN’ and Soph Higginson absolutely slayed it with her gourdjous (geddit?!) entry🎃🎃🎃 She was a deserving winner, particularly as we recalled the reactions of the Barlaston residents who witnessed her Womble along Wedgwood Drive & around the lake whilst wearing this massive, heavy & gooey pumpkin on her head…. Hopefully the win made up for the stiff neck & orange hair lol🤪🤣🤣‼️ This month’s theme is ‘Simply Having a Wonderful Christmas Time’ - in Barlaston of course! Look out for details on how to enter towards the end of the month📸🤳

There are lots of Christmas Do’s coming up so keep a look out for info on the walking group who will be Strollin’ & Stridin’ in a winter wonderland on the 3rd December, followed by a party in the village hall🥾🍷🍵🥳 - email us or contact Sandie for more details.
We’re also excited to announce that tickets are now available for the annual Golden Agers Tea Party on the 14th December❣️ There’s always a lovely atmosphere at the party & this year we are being entertained by members of the Rock Choir🎼❤️🎶🎵 Please confirm your attendance by emailing Barlastoncommunitygroup@gmail.com or contacting Michala (07970 593910) or Sandie (07496 088544).

Though the nights are getting longer, our community spirit still shines brightly🌟🌟 So keep cheerful & thank our lucky stars we live in such a friendly & beautiful place❣️🥰❤️ Happy November folks🥰
