Barlaston Community Group chose to run a village Film Night to create a local event which assisted in achieving part of its aim to 'To foster community spirit and encourage neighbourliness within the village of Barlaston'. The Barlaston Film Night is held in Barlaston Village Hall, 1 Longton Road, Barlaston, ST12 9AA and is a community event for everyone. Although the event has not been designed as profit making, any money made from the Film nights will be invested back into the village.

Empire of Light - Saturday 19th October 2024

Thanks to our loyal FILM NIGHT Fans for another great turn-out for Empire of Light this evening. HUGE THANKS to the Front of House ladies Sandie, Irene & Michala, the kitchen gang Andrew & Vicki being organised by the wonderful Charlotte, & doing a fantastic job with all the technical bits was Steve Smith - thanks all (We did miss you though Sam & Tony). The chair-stackers were particularly efficient tonight too - was everyone in a hurry to get into the Duke before last orders??!!

Anyone But You - Saturday 6th July 2024

Thanks to everyone who supported Film Night!  We were a little thin on the ground as it coincided with the Football final – Steve & Tony did a good job updating us however and once it was confirmed Spain had beaten us we turned our attention back to the film.  It was rather different to our usual showings but the storyline was light-hearted and we had a lot of laughs along the way.

The Miracle Club - Saturday 27th April 2024

Film Night brings everyone together and although we had slightly mixed reviews about the film ‘The Miracle Club’, there is no doubt that we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.  It’s always a fun evening and the film is only a part of it - everyone’s chatting over a cup of tea and a Magnum, and it’s almost disappointing when the socialising has to stop for the film!  The finale is of course the ‘Chair-Gang’ an extremely organised  system involving the audience stacking and storing the chairs, invariably organised by Andrew Lakin – Thank You Andrew it’s much appreciated (and it’s cheaper than joining the gym!!)

The Great Escaper - Saturday 27th January 2024

Film Night was GREAT!!  The Great Escaper didn’t disappoint and we had a full house!  Everyone enjoyed the poignant (true!) story with superb acting from Michael Caine & Glenda Jackson who made us laugh and cry.  Thanks to our loyal support crew in the kitchen, front of house and soundman but of course most of all thanks to our FANTASIC AUDIENCE who bought lots of raffle tickets, teas and magnums…

Book Club - Saturday 14th October 2023

We weren’t sure what to expect at the Film Night showing of Book Club but it turned out to be a fun evening.  It was rather raunchy in parts but also laugh-out-loud funny and the acting was great.  We have it on good authority that the Dougie Mac shop has a waiting list for copies of 50 Shades of Grey now!  Many thanks as always to our loyal audience for helping put away the chairs at the end of the evening – we do appreciate it!

Ticket to Paradise - Saturday 22nd July 2023

The Film Night showing of A Ticket to Paradise starring George Clooney and Julia Roberts was good fun.  It was a light-hearted rom-com with stunning images of the Australian north coast where it was filmed.  Thanks to our loyal audience for making it a lovely village event despite the rain. The raffle raised £58.15 which has been donated to the Barlaston Scouts Group.

Mrs Harris Goes to Paris - Saturday 25th March 2023

It was brilliant to get a full house for Mrs Harris Goes to Paris!  We got lost in a world of Haute Couture & a warm hearted story of chasing dreams, friendship & love - a perfect pick-me-up after a damp & chilly couple of weeks‼️ Thanks to our wonderful audience who squeezed in together very sociably & formed an excellent chain-gang to put the chairs away at the end - how very Barlaston

Downton Abbey A New Era poster.jpg
Downton Abbey, A New Era - Saturday 17th September 2022

Downton Abbey, A New Era was WONDERFUL!  It had all the right ingredients to keep us distracted, amused and moved.  For a couple of hours we could forget about the Queen’s passing, the war in Ukraine and the economic crisis and we had a really lovely evening. Thanks to everyone for coming and of course to our super team of helpers!

the-last-bus-0-poster-20210910140013970_1.jpg
The Last Bus - Saturday 14th May 2022

The Last Bus was a poignant film superbly acted by Timothy Spall & although rather different from our normal showings, it was nevertheless enjoyed by all. HUGE THANKS to those that gave up the delights of Eurovision & the football to join us & the backstage crew of helpers (incl the ‘chair-gang’ which makes clearing away soooo much quicker) - Barlaston’s COMMUNITY SPIRIT in action

dream-horse-poster_1.jpg
Dream Horse - Saturday 12th March 2022

We were thrilled with the turnout for Film Night and Dream Horse got a fantastic reception.  We cheered on Dream Alliance and gave a pretty good rendition of Delilah when he won his final race!  The film is based on a true story and was funny and moving in equal measure with a grand finale ending, leaving everyone feeling uplifted – just what we like!

red-joan-poster_1.jpg
Red Joan - Saturday 5th October 2019

Thank you to our wonderful audience for such a fun evening! Red Joan was an intriguing story based on real life events (brilliantly acted by Judy Dench) but it seems that the success of the night no longer depends on the film - everyone chats to each other & newcomers are made to feel very welcome!!

Huge thanks for supporting the event & for the audience participation with chairs at the end - Barlaston Film Night Fans are the Best

dumbo-poster_1.jpg
Dumbo - Thursday 22nd August 2019

We had a lovely time this afternoon at the kids Film Matinee watching Dumbo! A massive THANK YOU to the children who were all so polite & the older ones helped tidy up & put the chairs away - Barlaston kids are GREAT.

The Candy Cart was supplied by Jaynies Crafts & Goodies - find her on Facebook if you want to know more

fishermans-friends-poster_1.jpg
Fishermans Friends - Saturday 10th August 2019

FULL HOUSE!

What a fantastic turnout for Fisherman's Friends! There was a party atmosphere in the hall & like all the best parties, it ended with a sing-song... a foot-stamping version of 'What shall we do with a Drunken Sailor', the line 'shave his bottom with a rusty razor' being sung with particular gusto.

Huge thanks to the gang below deck - Sam, Sandie & Irene & of course our wonderful audience for helping at the end with the washing up, stacking chairs & sweeping floors.

A Star is Born - Saturday 1st June 2019

Thanks to everyone who chose Film over Football last night. It was an emotional evening with brilliant acting & powerful musical numbers. Then in true Barlaston style people pitched in to help with putting chairs away & clearing the hall - Thank You & we look forward to seeing you all again on the 10th August for Fishermen's Friends!

bohemian-rhapsody-poster_1.jpg
Bohemian Rhapsody - Saturday 6th April 2019

A great big Thank You to Saturday's Film Night audience who had waited so patiently (5 months?!) for us to get Bohemian Rhapsody.
The raffle was as popular as ever with some super prizes including freshly baked cakes made by BLISS cakes and some Wedgwood pieces donated by Renee.
Thank you for supporting Film Night & we look forward to seeing you again soon.

mission-impossible---fallout-poster_1.jp
Mission Impossible: Fallout - Saturday 2nd February 2019

Mission Impossible Fallout certainly provided a tough test for our new film equipment - the action scenes were vivid & dramatic, with gasps & OMGs from the audience as we were visually bombarded with bloody fight scenes, car & motorbike chases & aerial extravaganzas with a twisting plot line, it was exhausting! (Spoiler alert, the baddies lose & Tom Cruise saves the world.)

The new projector & screen, funded by the National Lottery, was a great success & we are already looking forward to our next film.
