STAY SAFE AND SAVVY ONLINE EVENT in April unfortunately has been postponed until May. There will be more information in our next newsletter.
STROLLERS & STRIDERS
It’s a very British thing to always start with a discussion about the weather, but we do have such changeable climate it’s probably understandable. March was no different & we had downpours & tee-shirt days but at least it did stay dry for the Strollers & Striders. This month we had a walk on the Downs which is always a wonderful reminder of the beautiful place we live in! It was a dry day but the river was still fast flowing & we had to avoid the muddy & wet sections. The second walk was in Hanchurch Woods in beautiful sunshine! We took a peaceful route through the woods, now owned by the Woodland Trust, skirting the historic Swynnerton Old Park, which used to be a medieval deer park - who knew??!! And then back to the Plume for refreshments.
The walks are just as much about socialising & friendship as they are about the exercise & health benefits, so the cafe or pub stop at the end is important & always looked forward to! Next walks will be on the 1st & 15th April (the first & third Wednesday of each month) - new members always welcome🤗 If you’d like to know more please contact Sandie (Group Leader) on 07496 088544.
BARLASTON MARKETS
Did you know that there has been a fantastic market set in the heart of Barlaston for the last 10 years? The market is voluntarily organised and donates all profit to charity/local good causes.
WARM WELCOME WEDNESDAY
This coming week (and the 2nd Wed of each month throughout the year) Barlaston Village Market's community coffee morning is held at Barlaston Methodist Church, Park Drive. You'll find a warm welcome, a selection of market stalls and complimentary refreshment. The event is open 10am - midday on Wed 08 Apr.

RUBBISH NEWS: The last week of March was the Great British Spring Clean - this has been going for years…. & so has the Annual Bus Shelter Spring Clean‼️ HUGE THANKS to Parish Councillor VC Sue Tudor and Irene Moran for the very thorough clean-up of the bus shelter and surrounding area. They both worked hard to clear the kerbs of weeds at the disabled crossing and hoed the pavement around the bus shelter as well as sweeping up all the leaves & litter. This compliments the work that Womblers Mandy, Joe, Heather, Margaret & Gordon do every week‼️ HUGE thanks to ALL the Barlaston Womblers & everyone who picks up litter when they see it - you can and DO make a difference THANK YOU ALL❣️🚯♻️🗑️🚮👏
The SILVER SURFERS team Steve, Tony & Andrew will be in the Village Hall as usual, on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month.
As always, our very own Gurus will be on hand with help and advice regarding your phone, tablet or laptop, so do bring your device with you. Call Steve on 07861 617932 or Tony on 07783 009194 for further information.

It’s been a wonderfully busy and encouraging time at St John the Baptist Church, Barlaston, and we’re delighted to share some exciting updates with you.
Our Easter celebrations were truly meaningful. The Maundy Thursday service was deeply reflective, and the Quiet Hour at the Cross on Good Friday offered a powerful time for prayer and contemplation. Earlier that day, families gathered for a lively and enjoyable Good Friday morning, filled with crafts, worship, and a much-loved Easter egg hunt. Although attendance was a little lower than usual—likely due to the timing of the school holidays—there was still a wonderful sense of community and joy throughout. Easter Day itself was a vibrant celebration, with 79 adults and 10 children joining us in church.
Looking ahead, we warmly invite you to our Annual Parochial Church Meeting (APCM), which will take place at 7.00pm on Wednesday 15th April in the church. This is an important moment in our year as we reflect on all that has happened and look ahead, including the appointment of church officers. Everyone is very welcome, and we would love for you to be part of it.
We will be especially pleased to welcome our new Vicar, Revd Helen Duckett, who will be moving into the Vicarage with her family on 10th June. Her formal Institution service will take place on Wednesday 24th June at 7.00pm, and we warmly invite you to join us for this special and joyful occasion.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support & involvement in the life of our church. We look forward to seeing you soon. Do visit the church website https://stjohnsbarlaston.co.uk/
The BARLASTON IN BLOOM meeting on Monday (30th) was brilliant❣️ The plants, pots and tools swap worked well & was a great conversation starter😁 There was a lovely atmosphere in the hall and it was great to see so many people - some familiar faces and lovely new peops too🤗 There have been some great suggestions of things to explore, such as a seed library, a community garden and a produce bench… as well as some excellent suggestions for coach trips & places to visit! If you’d like to be added to the WhatsApp Group for links & info, please comment on the Facebook post or send us an email & we’ll put you in touch with the group👩🌾🪴🌸

The Facebook Photo Competition ‘APRIL FOOL’ was won by ANDY SMITH with his photo of Marmalade the inquisitive Shetland pony (& who we now know has his very own fan club‼️) Congratulations Andy you captured the cheeky chappy perfectly‼️ 🥳🤩🎉🎺 👏👏 Next month’s theme will be ‘SMALL WONDERS’ 🐝💧🐞🔎 so look out for the post towards the end of the month📸🤳🎞️
Welcome to Spring and have a lovely April!
