We had a wet start to the month but luckily our STROLLERS and STRIDERS are an intrepid group & wet & blustery weather isn’t enough to deter them - regular walker George has even been wearing SHORTS!! Late January & February walks have been to Trentham Park and latterly to Westport Lake where we were fortunate to be visiting on the day that Staffs County Council was giving away free native saplings (oak, hazel, rowan, etc.) to enhance nature, as part of their sustainability program.
Walk Leader David is doing well after his hip replacement & Group Leader Sandie has returned from her trip to Down Under - Huge thanks to Walk Leaders Gill, Tony, Kay, Val, Steve & Chris for holding the fort in their absence.
Next walks will be on the 4th & 18th March (the first & third Wednesday of each month). If you’d like to know more please contact Sandie (Group Leader) on 07496 088544
Did you know that there has been a fantastic market set in the heart of Barlaston for the last 10 years? The market is voluntarily organised and donates all profit to charity/local good causes.
Currently the market has three strands ... an online charity auction, a bi-monthly main market, which starts up again at the end of this month, and a monthly community coffee morning which has free refreshments.
The upcoming markets are:
WARM WELCOME WEDNESDAY
WED 11 MARCH
️10AM - MIDDAY
BARLASTON METHODIST CHURCH, PARK DRIVE
BARLASTON VILLAGE MARKET
SAT 28 MARCH
️10AM - 2PM
BARLASTON VILLAGE HALL, LONGTON ROAD, ST12 9AA
RUBBISH NEWS: Marvellous Mandy (Below Left) is still doing a great job litter-picking several times a week & has also been raising money for the British Heart Foundation - take a look at her fund-raising page at https://www.justgiving.com/page/mandy-bloor-5?utm_medium=FR&utm_source=WA - every little bit helps! Joe & Heather don’t let the weather put them off their regular route down Meaford Road to the roundabout & back along the canal and it’s the same for Gordon & Margaret along Old Rd, although Gordon has put away his Santa outfit until the end of the year! Stephen 2-buckets has been out along Hartwell Lane & Soph & DoE Toby have been Wombling up Wedgwood Drive. Luckily Mandy managed to catch Fit John (Below Right) as he dropped off more bags & he’d like us to pass on a message of thanks to all our Wonderful Womblers! Of course we’re very grateful to him too & working closely with Streetscene benefits us all.
The SILVER SURFERS team are in the Village Hall (the Ruth Dickson room at the rear) on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month. No question too silly, no problem too tricky for our Gurus! Last week was fully booked so don’t delay - call Steve on 07861 617932 to book a slot! (Tony is on holiday in March) You’ll even get a cuppa & a biscuit if Andrew is on duty - how can you resist this good-looking trio?!?!
Early News !! We will be holding an event on 23rd April, 10am - 1pm at the Village Hall titled "Stay Safe and Savvy Online", more details to follow in next months Newsletter and on our Facebook pages.

A warm welcome always awaits you at our village Church, St John the Baptist here in Barlaston. Our regular services are held on Sundays and Wednesdays at 10.30am each week. The Mosaic group for children runs on Sunday morning from 10.30am.
Do take note of the EASTER events that will be occurring, there is a special service on Maundy Thursday 2nd April at 7.00pm. A quiet reflective time at 1.30pm on Good Friday.
For families - there is the Activity Morning from 10.00am on GOOD FRIDAY.
EASTER DAY CELEBRATION 10.30am on Sunday 5th April.

The February Facebook Photo Competition theme was ‘Kitchen Creations’ and the winner was Barlaston Village Market with this delicious looking image of a classic Victoria Sponge. We don’t know who took the photo & we don’t know who baked it - but we do know that you can taste cakes like these (free!) at their community coffee mornings. Thank you to all our entrants & voters and next month’s theme will be ‘APRIL FOOL’ - anything silly, quirky or fun to make us smile!

We are also delighted to announce that the BARLASTON IN BLOOM group have booked the Village Hall on 30th of March at 6.30pm for the first BiB meeting of the year. There will be a 'plants, pots and tools swap' and all are welcome - whether you’re a seasoned gardener or just starting out - do please come along! We’d like to share tips, learn from one another, and celebrate the joy of gardening! It would be great if people can bring plants they're splitting, extra garden pots or spare tools to share. There will be a small charge of £2 to cover the cost of hall & tea and biscuits - cash on the door please! It will be great to see everyone and start planning lots of lovely things to do this year.
We’ve already seen lots of beautiful snowdrops & the daffodils are in bud which surely means Spring is on its way! Keep safe, dry & hopeful!!
