Official: August was the hottest summer since records began in 1884‼️ Although good news for the Strollers & Striders it was difficult for gardeners…. Chat on the Barlaston in Bloom group was about yellow lawns & flowers not lasting which resulted in only one garden opening to the group this month. Reports were that it was fabulous though- thanks Sue❣️

The theme for the August Photo Competition was ‘ALL THINGS BRIGHT & BEAUTIFUL’ and we had some fabulous photos to choose from.  Congratulations to JADE WILSON  whose symbolic view over a gate captured the theme so perfectly!  Thank you to all our voters, & entrants for the variety of beautiful photos sent in - we have some serious talent here in Barlaston😍🤩📸   You might have noticed that we’ve had a number of dramatic sunrises & sunsets in Barlaston lately (some of them entered into the competition 🧡❤️🩷) & we’d like to see more - keep looking upwards & enter the ‘September Skies’ competition.  Look out for notification towards the end of the month‼️

Barlaston Strollers and Striders once again had dry walks this month - one local, taking in the Downs from the canal passing by St. John’s Church, the second to Keele & an interesting walk around the grounds of Keele University (once we had tackled the ridiculous parking meters - visitors be warned - no cash accepted and an App that has to be pre-loaded…)  Thankfully our tech-savvy Walk Leaders, Tony & Steve, were on hand to help!  Many of you will know Walk Leader David Norman & we take this opportunity to wish him a full & speedy recovery after his heart valve surgery❤️ We miss you David❣️

The Strollers & Striders are a friendly bunch and if you’d like to join us we walk on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month - meet us at The Plume of Feathers and be ready to walk at 10am prompt.  You don’t need to let us know if you’re coming, just turn up!  If you have any questions or would like to know more, please give Sandie (Group Leader) a call on 07496 088544.  We’d love to meet you!  September walks will be on the 3rd and 17th🤗

Junior Womblers Daisy & Alfie have been out & because of the hot weather there have been Night Picks (thanks Mandy & Suzy❤️) and COD Picks (‘Crack Of Dawn’ lol - thanks Charlotte, Martin & Vicki) and Andrew Maddams also did an excellent Alley Attack, giving the alleyway between Longton Rd & Bedcroft a short back & sides‼️ Of course all our Womblers have been Brilliant & Busy and Barlaston would be lost without them🚯❤️:  A summer Shout-Out for Mandy👼, Joe & Heather, Margaret & Gordon, Stephen 2-Buckets, Lynn, Soph, Andrew & the Davies family and to others that are supporting the cause - THANKS TO YOU ALL❣️🚯❤️👏👏👏

The Silver Surfers are still on recess this month but are starting back in October🤗👨🏼‍💻🧑🏼‍💻 Sessions will be held in the Ruth Dickson room to the rear of the Village Hall as before, on Thursday the 9th & 23rd.  However, if you find yourself stuck or needing help in the meantime just give them a call!  They may be able to help over the phone or even make a house visit!  Please contact Steve on 07861 617932 or Tony on 07783 009194.

The Attic Sale has now become a regular annual event & tables seem to sell a year in advance!  There’s still a few left if you want to contact Chris or Janet but otherwise just make a note of the date in your diary - Saturday 1st November, 2 - 4pm in Barlaston Village Hall.  Free entry & lots of different stalls plus refreshments including cakes made by the legendary WI bakers❣️🎂🍰
