STROLLERS & STRIDERS
The Strollers and Striders visited Keele Hall for their first walk with the main aim of seeing the flowering cherry trees that have now become synonymous with Keele University in the Springtime. Keele has been planted with flowering cherries since the first ornamental grounds were laid out in the late 1940s! There was a good turnout and we had lovely walk through the grounds! We stayed local for the second walk and still on a Spring theme, visited Hem Heath Woods to see the bluebells. It was a little early for the bluebells and we didn’t get that blanket of colour that can be seen when the flowers are fully open but we had a lovely walk and the birdsong was bewitching!
May walks will be on the 6th & 20th (the 1st & 3rd Wednesday of each month) and new members are always welcome. If you’d like to know more please contact Sandie (Group Leader) on 07496 088544.
RUBBISH NEWS: The Barlaston Womblers are still very active picking litter around the lanes of Barlaston. You may have seen a post on Facebook last month from Joe Poultney which nearly broke the internet…. Joe and Heather litter-pick Meaford Road down to the roundabout and back along the canal EVERY WEEK collecting at least one full green bag of rubbish!! Over 360 people ‘Liked’ his post and 50 people commented, which hopefully will have helped raise awareness of the work that our Womblers do. Please check out the Barlaston Womblers Facebook Group if you’d like to join the fight against litter and there is a regular supply of green bags at the Dougie Mac shop. Look out for Joe & Heather, also Margaret & Gordon on Old Road and our Wombling Angel Mandy who picks everywhere!! We also have a new recruit, Henry, who is litter-picking for his Duke of Edinburgh Bronze award and lovely Daisy who litter-picks whenever she visits Barlaston to visit her grandparents Irene & Dave Moran. HUGE THANKS to ALL the Barlaston Womblers and please toot or give a thumbs up if you spot someone in a tell-tale hi-viz jacket with a green bag on your travel❣️🚯♻️🗑️🚮👏

BARLASTON MARKETS
Did you know that there has been a fantastic market set in the heart of Barlaston for the last 10 years? The market is voluntarily organised and donates all profit to charity/local good causes.

This coming week (and the 2nd Wed of each month throughout the year) Barlaston Village Market's community coffee morning is held at Barlaston Methodist Church, Park Drive. You'll find a warm welcome, a selection of market stalls and complimentary refreshment. The event is open 10am - midday on Wed 13 May.
We understand that there will be a new layout in the Parish Gazette from next month which will include not only these ‘updates’ but a ‘What’s On’ section, so residents can see the various events and activities that are taking place throughout the weeks and months and make a note of the dates - there are lots of exciting things coming up in Barlaston!!
